Whether you’re a musician, athlete, living with pain, or looking to improve your posture, the Alexander Technique is most frequently and effectively taught in individual, private lessons. This also allows for the ability to tailor the lesson to meet your specific needs and interests.
Private lessons involve table work, which facilitates the release of excess tension, and activity work, which helps you find freedom from unwanted postural habits. The process of undoing these habitual tensions allows for the return of your natural coordination and flexibility.
You are encouraged to bring in activities from your daily life (walking, sitting, working on a computer) or a specialized activity (yoga, singing, playing a musical instrument, acting, sports, etc).
Master Classes are a great way to introduce a large group of performers to the Alexander Technique as they engage the performer as well as the audience in learning both basic principles and more advanced concepts.
Master Classes can be especially helpful for visual learners and teachers, as working in front of a group provides ample opportunity to observe, listen, and experiment with new ideas.
Sarah is available to teach Master Classes to performers of all levels in Central Texas and worldwide.
Introducing the principles of the Alexander Technique to an ensemble is a great way to build cohesiveness within your group as well as improve their overall performance. As each member of the ensemble becomes more aware of themselves and their own habits, it becomes easier for the entire ensemble to listen to themselves, each other, and the direction of the conductor.
Ensemble work can include a variety of topics including posture, breath, responsiveness to the conductor, developing a unified sound, etc. The interest and goals of the ensemble determines the direction of the workshop.
Group Classes and Workshops are a fantastic and efficient way to introduce the Alexander Technique to a larger population, and a great topic for corporate events and retreats. The content of these sessions varies depending on group interest/intent, but will always include an introduction to the Alexander Technique and a hands-on exploration of the basic principles.
Sarah has taught workshops at many events and to a varied population, including choirs (professional and collegiate), bands, voice studios, acting/theater departments, corporate events, and retreats as well as on-going group classes at UCLA for those with back pain, stress, and physical discomfort.
Sarah is available to give Group Classes and Workshops worldwide.
